The 2026 "Scientific Fitness Guidance Goes to the Grassroots" Hubei program was recently launched in Guanyin Town, Yunxi County, Shiyan City. Hosted by the China Institute of Sport Science under the General Administration of Sport of China and the Hubei Provincial Sports Bureau, and organized by the Hubei Provincial Institute of Sports Science and the People's Government of Guanyin Town, the program features three components: community, school, and village outreach. Its goal is to bring professional sports science, scientific fitness guidance, and accessible health services to the grassroots, bridge the "last mile" of sports and health services, and boost rural revitalization through national fitness.

The launch ceremony took place at the Liujiawan Rural Revitalization Demonstration Base, where local residents performed street dance, martial arts, and other fitness activities. Zhang Shuailing, a teacher at Guanyin Town Junior High School and fitness promotion ambassador for the event, read the "Scientific Fitness Initiative." Yan Chenglong, from the School of Physical Education at Wuhan Huaxia Institute of Technology (HXIT), and Yu Dawei, from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, delivered talks on sports injury prevention and exercise intervention for chronic disease management, and took questions from villagers. A subsequent session on identifying and managing neck, shoulder, lower back, and leg pain at home was tailored to the physical demands of local farming life and drew strong positive feedback.

At the community service site, the National Physical Fitness Testing Vehicle arrived at the Central Community Cultural Square, offering residents a range of fitness assessments including body composition, bone density, and muscle strength. Staff provided one-on-one consultations and personalized fitness recommendations. Expert teams from the Hubei Provincial Sports Rehabilitation Hospital, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan Fourth Hospital, and Taihe Hospital of Shiyan City offered joint consultations, addressing common grassroots health concerns such as exercise for chronic disease management, bone and joint assessments, and rehabilitation for neck, shoulder, lower back, and leg pain. Zhang Yanan, a staff member of the Office of the CPPCC Yunxi County Committee, said after her assessment that she now has a clearer picture of her health and plans to exercise more regularly.
That afternoon, Yan Chenglong and Liao Jingjing from the Hubei Provincial Institute of Sports Science visited Guanyin Town Junior High School, delivering an immersive fitness class to more than 300 students and teachers. They addressed common adolescent issues such as scoliosis and poor posture, explaining causes, risks, and practical techniques for spine care, posture correction, and injury prevention. On-site activities included fun sports challenges, posture screenings, and spinal health checks. Li Liang, a researcher at the China Institute of Sport Science under the General Administration of Sport of China, noted that adolescents are central to building a Healthy China and a sporting powerhouse, and that it is critical to help them develop scientific fitness habits and a lifelong commitment to physical activity from an early age.

At the Tianhekou Village Cultural Activity Square, staff offered villagers more than ten basic fitness tests. Taking into account the physical demands of farm work, they interpreted results and provided guidance on injury prevention and home-based exercise, promoting the message that "farming and fitness can go hand in hand."
A representative from the Hubei Provincial Institute of Sports Science said the event brought together quality sports and medical resources to deliver accessible health services to the grassroots. Moving forward, the institute will continue to expand its grassroots programs, offering regular sports science education, fitness monitoring, and sports medicine services to support the development of a Healthy Hubei and a leading sports province.
