Recently, the results of the national semi-finals of the 2026 FLTRP Star Teacher Teaching Contest were officially announced. A teaching team consisting of five faculty members from the School of Foreign Languages—Jiang Qian, Yang Jiangling, Wang Lili, Yang Wenjuan and Dong Yanqi—stood out among all entries and won the Grand Prize in the national semi-finals.
Focusing on the theme of Effective Utilization of Foreign Language Textbooks: Digital Intelligence Empowers Cross-Cultural Communication, this high-profile contest is highly influential in the field of foreign language teaching in Chinese higher universities. A total of 527 entries were submitted nationwide, making it highly competitive. In the category for English majors themed Understanding Contemporary China, only 16 teams nationwide were awarded the Grand Prize, with HXIT’s team among them—a testament to the team’s solid teaching expertise and innovative curriculum design capabilities.
Since the competition kicked off, team members have worked closely together through multiple rounds of collective seminars. Closely aligning with the competition theme, they delved into the essence of textbooks, explored ways to fully integrate digital and AI technologies into foreign language classrooms, repeatedly refined teaching designs, and optimized lesson plans and classroom delivery to achieve effective integration of language instruction, ideological and political education, and digital tools.
Liu Pei, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, stated that the school has long upheld the philosophy of boosting teaching quality through competitions and advancing teaching reform via research. It has consistently deepened reforms in classroom teaching, actively promoted the development of courses under the Understanding Contemporary China series, and encouraged teachers to incorporate information technology into teaching practices to continuously improve their capacity for teaching innovation and for integrating ideological and political education into the curriculum.
Winning the Grand Prize at the national semi-finals is full recognition of the team's teaching achievements and stands as testament to the school's fruitful teaching reforms.Moving forward, the team will summarize the experience gained during preparation, further refine their teaching designs, and prepare for upcoming competitions.The School of Foreign Languages will continue to create platforms for teaching exchange, adopt innovative classroom practices, advance the quality of foreign language education, and strive to cultivate globally competent foreign language professionals capable of bridging China and the world and effectively sharing China's story.
